Roberto Weiss grew up in Peru and is fluent in Spanish, German and English. He obtained an AA degree at the Universidad Catolica in Lima, and moved to the U.S. permanently in 1980 after having completed a BA in Psychology as an International Student at Montclair State College in New Jersey.
Mr. Weiss has been in Clinical Psychology/Community Mental Health Services since 1988 from the New School for Social Research in New York City. He later got training in Strategic Family Therapy and worked in several Community Mental Health Programs in New Jersey. He moved to California in 1991, where he obtained a second MA degree in 1996 in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT)at the United States International University (now Alliant International University). He has been a licensed bilingual/bicultural MFT in California since 1999, as well as a bilingual clinical supervisor since 2001. He also became a California Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in 2014, and an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Approved Supervisor in 2017 (after being awarded the AAMFT Minority Supervisor Stipend in 2014).
Mr. Weiss has treated thousands of culturally diverse children, adolescents, couples, families, and adults for over thirty-five years. He has developed an integrative, brief and effective psychodynamically and cognitive-behaviorally-based blended approach to treat a wide range of symptoms and presenting problems. His clinical, academic and administrative experience in the mental health field is extensive, having worked as clinical supervisor at the San Diego State University MFT Program for 8 years; a Professor and Clinical Training Coordinator at Alliant International University, his Alma Matter; a director of adult and children mental health programs; and a shareholder and outpatient psychotherapist at Motiva Associates.
